The Reverend Philip Cochrane became Rector of St Laurence in December 2024, bringing a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and a touch of self-deprecating humour that has quickly endeared him to the community.
Born and raised on a farm in rural North Antrim, in the north of Ireland, Philip’s upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of community and resilience. It won’t be long before you notice the soft lilt of his Ulster Scots accent, particularly in his vowels, which adds a distinctive charm to his presence.
With ministry experience spanning the United Kingdom and Canada, including his previous role as Rector of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Vancouver, Philip is passionate about fostering authentic relationships and creating a space where everyone feels valued and inspired to grow in their faith.
Philip embraces St Laurence’s belief that “the people are the treasure of the church.” He is deeply committed to enabling every individual in the community to live into their fullest potential, believing that together we can reflect the love of Christ in the world.
His leadership is marked by an inclusive theology, a relational approach, and contagious enthusiasm. With warmth, humour, and genuine care, Philip encourages us to explore our faith, deepen our connections, and engage with the world around us.
As we journey forward together, Philip’s vision and energy will guide us in embracing new opportunities, growing in faith, and celebrating the unique gifts of each member of our community.
